An immigration clinic housed in the San Joaquin College of Law in Clovis received a boost with a grant of $25,000 from the Walmart Foundation.

Started up earlier this year, the New American Legal Clinic assists legal immigrants in obtaining citizenship, legal residency and visas with free services available to residents of Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare counties.

"This will help SJCL assist in serving hundreds of people," said Jan Pearson, dean of San Joaquin College of Law, in a release.

The clinic has also received financial support from Granville Homes, Baradat & Paboojian and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

As well, the Nisei Farmers League has also lent its support, most recently by helping the clinic in applying for the Walmart Foundation grant.

More information about the clinic can be found at sjcl.edu or by calling the New American Legal Clinic at (559) 326-1553.
