Dan Lee Rogers

Class of 2008

Dan Lee Rogers (Law ‘08), currently the Senior Partner of Premack Rogers Downs P.C., held executive leadership positions with IBM, Sierra On-Line, and Virgin Interactive prior to entering the legal profession. In addition, he has worked in the Colorado ski industry, cut timber in the Rockies, and performed across the country as a professional musician.

Prior to law school, Dan contributed to the business development, publishing, and commercialization of globally recognized entertainment properties including Star Wars, Call of Duty, The Lord of the Rings, and many more.

After graduating from SJCL in 2008, Dan added intellectual property attorney, law professor, bestselling author, and technology executive to his already impressive list of achievements. His legal practice includes representing technology companies, software developers, entrepreneurs, artists, and creative professionals.

Dan is a recognized authority on artificial intelligence law, intellectual property, technology, and entertainment. He has helped guide businesses through two of the most transformative periods in modern technology; the rise of the interactive entertainment industry, and the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (AI).

With his core focus on helping innovators protect and commercialize ideas at the intersection of law, technology, and creativity, Dan has authored articles that have appeared in leading industry publications. This year he published AI Law: Who Owns What AI Creates? which became an Amazon Best Seller. A prior novel, AI Ghosting, also reached number one on the Amazon Best Seller list.

Dan has served as an Adjunct Professor of Digital Media Law, and has lectured internationally on intellectual property, copyright, mergers and acquisitions, digital media, and AI.

He currently remains an active writer and musician, believing that the most effective advocates for creators are often creators themselves. Dan lives with his wife, Holly, of nearly 50 years along the Central California coast and continues to advise innovators, teach future attorneys, and help shape the legal framework surrounding intellectual property and artificial intelligence.
