Congratulations to the Law Offices of Gary J. Hill (Law ’78), recipient of a 2011 Child Friendly Business Award from First 5 Fresno County! Hill was nominated by employee Gwen Connolly, who wrote “Gary Hill provides paid vacation time for all his four employees who are all moms, even though we only work part-time,” adding “I have the best boss in the world!”
Susan Anderson (Law ’87), Fresno County Supervisor & First 5 Commission Chair, presents Gary Hill with his 2011 Child Friendly Business Award.
Hill was surprised to hear he’d won the award, because Connolly never told him about her nomination. He says going the extra mile to provide accommodations for families, even those of part time workers, has worked out for both sides. He believes he could never afford the level of talent he employs if he had to compete with offices offering more money, but rigid work schedules. The flexibility has also apparently led to employee loyalty; most have been with him for at least six years.
This is not the first time San Joaquin College of Law has been mentioned in the Child Friend Business Awards. In 2008, the Law School itself won the award for its test schedule accommodations for new mothers and generous benefits for parents employed by SJCL.
