Central California Legal Services welcomes the return of attorney Alfred Gallegos as the Interim Team Leader for our Family/Immigration/Benefits Team. Gallegos oversees a team of attorneys and paralegals who represent cases for vulnerable low-income populations within family law, public benefits, and naturalization. Many of these individuals are victims of domestic violence, individuals with disabilities, seniors, and veterans.

This is Gallegos’ second time working for CCLS; previously, he served as the managing attorney in our Fresno office for several years before leaving for private practice. His priority then was to support his three daughters, two of which have graduated college and are enjoying successful careers.

Initially, Gallegos’ family worked as field laborers. His grandfather and his brothers took steps to find jobs that created more stability because they wanted the next generation to have more options outside of fieldwork. During the summer his grandfather would take him to work in the fields so he could experience the difficulty of the work. While chopping cotton at the age of 12, Gallegos decided that was not the life he wanted; it was at that moment he decided to go to college.

Al received his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies at Fresno State. In 1992, he graduated from San Joaquin College of Law and was admitted into the State Bar that same year. With 26 years of experience as an attorney, 11 of which he spent with his own practice, Gallegos is an experienced civil litigator in both federal and state court. Gallegos grew up in a compassionate family and was taught the importance of helping others. Inspired by his teachers, he says that if he wasn’t a lawyer, he would be teaching young students at a local high school. Now that his children are grown, he can satisfy his true passion of assisting individuals who need legal assistance but are unable to afford an attorney.

We are excited to have him back on the team.
