Artificial Intelligence and the Law

Professor Diaz Wrest (she/her) is of Counsel at Dias Law Firm, Inc., in Hanford, California. Alicia practices in the area of general civil law with an emphasis on small businesses, trusts, and firm professional standards. Alicia graduated from San Joaquin College of Law with High Honors in 2010 and worked as a Professor’s Assistant during her time in school. At SJCL, she has served as Director of the Law Library and Associate Academic Dean. She has taught Legal Research and Writing, Legal Process, Advanced Legal Research, and Civil Procedure. She has mentored students in passing the bar exam, working most often with students from historically marginalized communities.  Currently, in addition to her role as an Adjunct Professor at SJCL, Alicia is Library Faculty at Clovis Community College. At Clovis Community College she has also served as Interim Dean of Students and has led initiatives tied to improving equitable student outcomes, such as Guided Pathways, LGBT+ Task Force, and Student Success and Equity Planning. Alicia also serves as a Central Valley/Mother Lode Regional Co-Lead for Professional Development in Artificial Intelligence and has served on AI workgroups at Clovis Community College and State Center Community College District. She has been awarded a sabbatical through State Center, and in the Spring of 2027, she will conduct research into how California Community College Libraries are responding to Generative Artificial Intelligence. In her free time, Alicia enjoys traveling, cooking, hiking, reading and spending time with her spouse, children, family, and two cats.
