
The Fresno County Bar Association, in association with the Zekian Scholarship Committee, proudly announce the two recipients of the Spring 2014 Zekian Scholarships. Each winner receives $2,500.00 in the name of the Fresno County Bar Association, in memory of Attorney Harout “Harry” Zekian.
This year’s scholarship recipients are Nellie M. Peloian and John Orman.
Nellie was born in Fresno, and attended Fresno City College prior to obtaining her BA from UC Santa Barbara where she was a member of Phi Alpa Delta, and returned to Fresno following graduation. She is currently completing her third year at San Joaquin College of Law, and will graduate in June 2015. Nellie is a member of Delta Theta Phi, and a volunteer mentor to a first year law student. Nellie has worked as a legal secretary for her fast her, James H. Peloian, for over four years, and plans to continue to work there after passing the Bar, practicing Estate Planning. Nellie received the Witkin award in 2012 for having the highest grade in Insurance Law, and also received a Witkin award in 2013 in Copyright and Trademark Law.
John was born in Fresno, and is married with one daughter. John attended Fresno City College before obtaining his BA from California State University, Fresno. John is currently attending San Joaquin College of Law and is in his third semester, where he is in the top 10% of his class. John will graduate in 2015 from San Joaquin College of Law. John has been a law clerk since April 2012, in workers’ compensation defense and criminal law. John plans to practice criminal defense in Fresno after passing the Bar.
Both scholarship recipients were chosen for their outstanding academic achievement, and high levels of personal integrity.
The Fresno County Bar Association’s Harry Zekian Memorial Scholarships are awarded each year and are fully financially funded by a committee of friends and family of the late Harry Zekian. Committee members include Levon Zekian, Dror Geron, Krikor Nishanian, David Beitchman and past FCBA President, Brian Tatarian.
