Professor Kassim previously worked at Lozano Smith where she handled a variety of matters for public agencies including voting rights, free speech rights of students and public employees, labor relations, and transactional matters affecting school districts. She also served as Deputy County Counsel for Madera County, handling petitions for writ of habeas corpus. Professor Kassim graduated from San Joaquin College of Law with Distinction in 2016. As a student, she won several scholarships including the Justice Pauline Davis Hanson Scholarship, Justice Hollis G. Best Scholarship, and the Leon S. Peters Foundation Leadership Award, among many Witkin Awards as well. Professor Kassim was the first Yemeni-American woman in her community, and within California, to become a licensed attorney. She deeply enjoys mentoring aspiring lawyers from her community as well as women from underrepresented communities. In addition to her role at San Joaquin College of Law, Professor Kassim is a Lecturer at California State University, Fresno, a Certified Yoga Instructor, and a devoted mother of two daughters.
