The Paralegal assists and provides a range of legal support and administration to lawyers and other legal professionals engaged in civil law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Preparation, filing, recording, and/or processing liens, deeds of trust, bankruptcy schedules, proofs of claim, judgment forms
  • Organize and analyze information; cross-check and validate information
  • Prepare written reports and draft legal documents including pleadings and discovery requests and responses
  • Conduct asset, real property, business, and people searches
  • Conduct business entity and UCC searches on Secretary of State
  • Conduct property searches on DataTree
  • Hearing, trial, and arbitration preparation experience
  • Case management of construction defect litigation, including job files, subcontractors, insurers, etc.
  • Preparation of Crawford and Additional Insured tenders and tracking same.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or certificate program in paralegal studies
  • Minimum of three years legal experience, ideally in Commercial Litigation with the emphasis in Construction Defect, Real Property, Collection Litigation (including Bankruptcy matters), and Business Disputes. Trial experience preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience considered
  • Thorough knowledge of legal principles, legal research techniques, legal terminology, and government regulations
  • Excellent legal drafting, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment such as a copy machine, fax machine, printer, scanner, and computer
  • Ability to type 60 wpm preferred
  • Ability to work with databases and on-line technological platforms
  • Ability to be detail-oriented, diligent, and flexible
  • Ability to handle conflicting time demands and focus on task completion with little direction or need for supervisory follow-up
  • Proficient command of the English language in both oral and written format
  • Ability to work and maintain patience with diversified individuals of various ethnic backgrounds and professional competencies
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional manner

Pay rate range: (commensurate with experience) is $30-$48/hour.  

Schedule: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
