Scholarship Statements

Please type a short statement about why you believe you best meet the criteria for each scholarship. Make sure you are eligible for each scholarship that you apply for.

Qualifications: Currently enrolled 3rd-4th year student. Given to a student that has an interest in civil litigation and portrays the standards of ABOTA - professionalism, integrity, honor, and civility.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 2nd-3rd year student who is entering into the 3rd or 4th year. Given to a student that demonstrates strong scholastic ability, financial need or hardship, and must demonstrate promise as a future attorney and representative of SJCL.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 2nd-5th year student who embodies the spirit of SJCL. This scholarship is given to a student that demonstrates discipline, self-motivation, academic excellence, and an all-around commitment to success and growth.
Qualifications: 2nd-5th year student who performed in the top 1/3 of his or her Torts class. Student must be currently enrolled in or have taken the Civil Trial Practice or Criminal Trial Practice class and has demonstrated interest in pursuing a career as a trial attorney. Student must demonstrate financial need.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 2nd-5th year student who is an active duty, reserve, honorably discharged, or retired United States military service member.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 1st-5th year student who demonstrates an interest in business or bankruptcy law and has a strong academic performance.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled female student with financial need and demonstrated participation in volunteering for service projects in accordance with the Soroptimist mission of drug prevention, domestic violence prevention, protecting the environment or ending discrimination or poverty.
Qualifications: Must be graduating student with demonstrated financial need or hardship to help offset the costs associated with bar preparation and related expenses.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 1st-5th year student. Must be an active member in good standing (dues paid and initiated) Selected recipient(s) will be members with the most participation in DTP events, meetings, and committees. In the case of a tie, the remaining weight will be given for community service, academics, and/or financial need.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled SJCL student, with preference being given to a female head of household, who demonstrates a high level of civility and integrity, is planning to practice law in the San Joaquin Valley area, has good academic standing and has demonstrated financial need.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 1st-3rd year student with demonstrated financial need or hardship (examples; working full-time, or single parent). Scholarship given to a student who possesses qualities in the zealous representation of their client in front of a jury.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled, and academically sound, 2nd-5th year student with demonstrated financial need or hardship. Applicant must be a second career entry student, preferably in an industry for 10 or more years. If no second career applicants apply, then an academically sound 2nd-5th year student who has been out of school for at least 10+ years, and demonstrates financial need or hardship, will be considered.
Qualifications: Given to a 2nd-5th year law student with a record of academic achievement in both undergraduate and the first year of law school that demonstrates promise for a successful career in law. Must be a member of the LawSUIT student organization and be committed to civic involvement through SJCL or other community volunteer activities that promote diversity and will continue that commitment upon entering the legal profession. Demonstration of financial need or hardship will be considered.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 2nd-5th year student, with demonstrated financial need or hardship, who exhibits an interest in working with underserved populations after graduation. Additional consideration will be given to a student who has engaged in significant volunteer/philanthropic work in the community and/or has children.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled male or female student, with a record of academic achievement, who is a parent of a child or children under the age of 18. Other considerations, but not exclusive, include participation in Law Review, those who have overcome obstacles to study law or are entering a second career, and those who demonstrate financial need or hardship.
Qualifications: 2nd-5th year student involved in SJCL or other community volunteer activities. A background in information technology and/or a demonstrated interest in intellectual property law. Financial need or hardship will be considered.
Qualifications: A graduating SJCL student in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need. Funds are to be used to offset the cost of a bar review course for the recipient.
Qualifications: Given to a 1st-5th year law student with financial need or hardship and a record of academic achievement in undergraduate and/or law school that demonstrates promise for a successful career in law. Must be a member of the LawSUIT student organization and be committed to civic involvement through SJCL or other community volunteer activities that promote diversity, and will continue that commitment upon entering the legal profession.
Qualifications: Given to a 1st-5th year student with a particular interest in Consumer Law who demonstrates promise as a future attorney and representative of SJCL.
Qualifications: Given to a 2nd-3rd year student who demonstrates leadership abilities, academic excellence and financial need.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 2nd-5th year student. Must demonstrate a significant improvement between the Spring 2017 and Fall 2017 semesters.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 2nd-5th year student. Student must demonstrate financial need based on one or more of the following criteria: student loans, supporting minor children, working full time, receipt of other scholarships, illness or family tragedy, length of commute.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled 2nd-5th year student. Student must demonstrate substantial participation in activities that benefit the SJCL community over and beyond membership in an SJCL organization.
