San Joaquin College of Law seeks a dynamic, innovative leader for our on-campus clinic assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to obtain the educational services, community services, and related supports they need to reach their full potential.

The Director maintains an active caseload; trains, supervises, and mentors students and volunteers participating in the Clinic; conducts and trains others to conduct public education programs; evaluates ongoing the effectiveness of the educational component of the Clinic and makes needed changes; provides leadership, guidance, and direction in day-to-day implementation of policies and procedures to accomplish short and long-term goals of the Clinic; evaluates ongoing the effectiveness of all Clinic operations as a community resource and makes needed changes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of increasingly responsible administrative, managerial, and supervisory experience preferably in an academic setting.
  • Licensed Attorney (member of the State Bar of California Preferred).*

Preferred:  Demonstrated experience in the I/DD field of law.

Education:

  • J.D. from an ABA or WASC accredited law school

Candidates should provide evidence of:

  • In-depth familiarity with and commitment to advocacy work to help individuals with intellectual and development disabilities and their families in obtaining educational services, community services, and related support services.
  • Providing consultation, legal counsel, and legal services to parents/legal guardians regarding their preschool, primary, or secondary student’s special education services.
  • Proven success in working with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
  • Establishing operational procedures and financial priorities.
  • Supervising, mentoring, and training others.
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with community groups and organizing events.
  • Ability to respond flexibly to changing institutional needs.
  • Strong communication skills.

Compensation:

Director, Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000 Annually

* Post Bar Clerk is eligible to apply. Upon passing the July 2024 Bar, the Clerk would be eligible for promotion. Hourly: $28.00-$36.00

This is a 35-hour workweek. Benefits include generous vacation time, sick time, medical, dental, and vision insurance, EAP, 403b participation option, and up to 4 telework days a month once eligible.

The job is typically performed indoors with heat/air-conditioning. The applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily which include reading, typing/ keyboarding, lifting to 10 pounds, on average six plus hours at a workstation.
