Amelia Thompson is a tax attorney for the Department of Treasury, where she litigates cases before the Tax Court in defense of the IRS. She also has environmental litigation experience from her time as a staff attorney at the South Carolina Environmental Law Project. Ms. Thompson began teaching at SJCL while a Career Law Clerk to the Honorable Jeremy Peterson, Magistrate Judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California at Yosemite. She has also served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Louise W. Flanagan and the Honorable Malcolm J. Howard, both District Judges in the Eastern District of North Carolina. While earning her J.D. at the University of North Carolina School of Law, she taught an exam writing course, and worked at the North Carolina State Ethics Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 office, and Department of Justice Environmental Enforcement Section, along with completing over two hundred hours of pro bono work for various nonprofit organizations.
