The Director is responsible for administering and managing all aspects of the law school’s library, including budgeting, planning, policies, personnel, collection and resource development, and ensuring compliance with all accreditation requirements. The Director is charged with the development, administration, and implementation of a cohesive writing program that spans all years of a student’s law program. The Director is also a member of the full-time faculty, report directly to the Dean, and works under very minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA or WASC accredited law school
- Active bar membership
- Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible administrative, managerial, and supervisory experience in a law library, preferably in an academic setting
- Previous teaching experience, especially legal writing
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to diverse audiences – students, faculty, academic administrators, practicing lawyers – within the legal profession
Essential Job Requirements
- Development, administration, and implementation of a cohesive writing program that spans all years of a student’s law program and is expected to teach one section of Legal Methods (1-L Research & Writing), and other courses as assigned, while maintaining administrative and supervisory responsibilities.
- Administer and manage all aspects of the law school’s library.
- Develop and maintain the library’s operating policy and procedures manual.
- Ensure the library and informational services are fully compliant with COBE and WASC accreditation standards and additional reporting requirements including IPEDS.
- Research, design, and implement library configuration changes and expansions.
- Initiate new services.
- Ensure students and faculty receive training on LEXIS, Westlaw, and other library technologies.
- Provide research assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
- Ensure SJCL participation in appropriate library networks and linkages.
- Participate in professional activities and keep abreast of the latest innovations in library science.
- Participate in law school governance as a full-time faculty member, including committee work as assigned.
- Supervisory responsibilities for TA's and library staff.
The applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily which include reading, typing/ keyboarding, on average six plus hours at a workstation and lifting up to 10 pounds. Primarily works indoors in a heated/air-conditioned workspace.
Full-time, exempt, salary range: $87,000-123,000k
