The BREN Clinic continues its Learn at Lunch series in conversation with Attorney Stefanie Krause, who will discuss special needs conservatorships on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, 12:10-12:50p.
By Shannon Wentworth, BREN Program Director
In June, I had the opportunity to present an MCLE with the Office of the State Public Defender addressing the intersection between special needs and crime. As a criminal defense attorney, I saw that most of my long-term incarcerated clients had their initial arrest at school with many of those stemming from behaviors associated with special needs (diagnosed and undiagnosed).
BREN is pleased to announce the expansion of our educational tools with our new Learn at Lunch series. Each session will feature an interview with an expert on a narrow specific topic. The series is designed to fit neatly into participant’s lunch hour, beginning at 12:10pm and ending at 12:50pm. When you register, you will be asked to submit questions for the expert. By gathering questions early, we can ensure that the session goes smoothly.
When Jodie Howard (Law ’19) texted that the BREN Clinic was looking for a new program director, it felt like a good fit, except that my knowledge of special education law did not extend too far beyond what I have learned from my child’s special education journey.
