Application Instructions
San Joaquin College of Law offers a three-, four- or five- year program leading to the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree through day and evening classes. First-year students begin their studies in the Fall Semester; there is no mid-year entry program. The Early Application deadline is March 31. The Final Application deadline is June 30; however, it is to your advantage to apply early. The Law School operates on a “rolling” admissions process, accepting qualified individuals as applications are completed. Because there are a limited number of spaces, the class could fill prior to the deadline.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for the J. D. program at San Joaquin College of Law it is optimal if you have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. You do not need to have studied a pre-law curriculum. If you do not hold a bachelor’s degree please contact the Admissions Office for further counseling. All applicants must furnish the following to the Admissions Office:
- Application Form: You must complete and submit an application form. The application can be accessed on our website and completed by entering information into the fields on your computer. Then print and mail the form to the San Joaquin College of Law Admissions Committee. You may also print the form from your computer, type or print legibly to complete it and mail it in. Paper copies of the form are also available at the law school.
- Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee of $50, payable by check or money order to San Joaquin College of Law, must accompany your application.
- Personal Statement: Your personal statement should be limited to 1 - 3 double-spaced pages. Your statement is your opportunity to introduce yourself and to call attention to personal characteristics, experiences, accomplishments, academic interests, employment, career goals and what motivates you to study law. It is your opportunity to provide information that you think should be considered in your admissions decision. It also serves as an example of your writing ability to express yourself clearly and concisely. Include your name on each page.
- LSAT/CAS Registration: Applicants are required to register for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and Credential Assembly Service (CAS). The LSAT test is only offered 4 times a year. You can obtain registration and information online at www.lsac.org. LSAT scores must be from tests taken within 3 years prior to the year of enrollment. Once we receive your application we will contact CAS to request your report. Your report will be released to SJCL within 8 – 10 business days once all fees and documents are received by CAS.
- Transcripts: Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be sent to both SJCL and the CAS. A form is required from the www.lsac.org to properly route transcripts to CAS.
- Letters of Recommendation: Three letters are required that can be submitted either directly to San Joaquin College of Law or sent to CAS. It is ideal to request that a professor who can provide meaningful insight to your academic ability write at least one of the letters.
- Financial Aid: An applicant may complete the financial aid process prior to knowing if he or she is admitted into SJCL. Please go to the financial aid webpage at www.sjcl.edu/finaid for further information. To apply, click on "Apply for Financial Aid" and follow the instructions.
