The Fresno City Attorney’s Office seeks a qualified litigation attorney for municipal code prosecution. The position involves prosecution of city municipal code violations, obtaining code enforcement injunctions/abatements, prosecuting code enforcement cases in civil court, presenting matters to administrative hearing officers, handling writ of mandate appeals, responding to subpoenas, and legal research and writing. Qualifications include the ability to present matters to both administrative hearing officers and to the court; analyze complex legal issues; develop creative resolutions to complex issues; and exercise a high degree of maturity, judgment, and discretion when resolving high profile, political issues. Experience in all aspects of civil litigation including discovery, drafting and arguing motions, and developing trial strategies is desirable. The CAO is an office of 17 attorneys who work under the direction of the City Attorney, who is appointed by the City Council. The CAO provides legal services to all City departments, staff, and elected officials for a very wide range of transactional and litigation matters. The City has approximately 3900 employees, and 15 departments. The Litigation Unit of the CAO handles litigated cases involving claims of personal injury, wrongful death, use of force, personnel disputes, civil rights violations, and code enforcement violations. Attorneys serve at the will of the City Attorney. Attorneys must be licensed to practice and in good standing in the State of California.
